Urban Design in Augusta, Georgia

Lafayette Square

Lafayette Square in Augusta is a pocket park developed for public access as part of the renovation of four blocks of historic storefront and office space in the heart of downtown. This urban courtyard was designed as a place of shady green refuge for citizens and office workers. The award winning* park has a fountain with a 20-foot waterfall, reflecting pools, decks, swings, flowering shrubs, shade trees, and is furnished with a collection of period and modern furnishings which reflect the renovation taking place in surrounding historic office buildings.  Mike Morgan was project manager for this work while with Robert Marvin and Associates.

A central courtyard within the historic setting is designed to provide a leafy refuge in the heart of downtown Augusta
